The Knowledge Index (KI) notebooks are "walled garden" digital tools powered by Google's Gemini Notebook AI tool. Gemini Notebook is a sophisticated research tool that provides a streamlined method for retrieving information from multiple official Tax-Aide sources simultaneously. The tool searches only approved material that's inside the walled garden. It cannot access outside, unverified Internet sources. Use of the tool is optional. 

There are three Knowledge Index Notebooks available for use by all tax counselors:

The Tax Knowledge Index supports volunteers in completing tax returns, referencing tax documentation such as NTTC Pub 4012, NTTC Pub 4491, the Tax-Aide Scope Manual, and Virginia tax information.

The Policy Knowledge Index supports volunteers in finding information about AARP Foundation policies and procedures, using the Policy and Procedures Manual and leadership guides as references.

The Library Knowledge Index supports volunteers in finding specific program documentation such as tip sheets that are provided by Tax-Aide’s national committees on tax training, technology, operations, field support, leadership development, and recruiting and outreach.

Tax Counselors will likely use the Tax Knowledge Index much more frequently than the other two indexes.
